Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives

GENERAL INFORMATION

These grapes are generally gathered several weeks after the official start of the grape harvest, when they are overripe and have the famous noble rot, and conditions for each varietal are at their best.

WINE & FOOD PAIRINGS

This Gewurztraminer Late Harvest is the ideal companion of sweet and sour food and wine matches, such as honey duck magret or poultry baked with clementine. On festive occasions, it will be the perfect choice to serve with foie gras or scallops cooked with curry.

VINTAGE 2011

The winter was just as rough as the previous year, with falls at the temperature of -20 ° C. Spring was particularly hot and marked by drought, so no pressure of powdery mildew and mildew in the vines. The months of July and August were distinguished by numerous rainfall. The heat and the rain, which did not mix well, caused the appearance of decaying foci, mainly in the overloaded vines with excessive yields.

TASTING NOTES

Beautiful deep golden color, marked by an expressive nose, great aromatic intensity on notes of candied citrus (mandarin), sweet spices and honey. The attack on the palate is soft, with a nice freshness despite the sweetness, and a nice persistence on citrus.

Temperature of service: 8– 10° C°

Aging capacity: This wine can be enjoyed today, but can also be cellared for another 5 to 10 years

TERROIR

Site of Orschwihr, mostly clay-limestone soils (western slope of the Bollenberg) and sandstone (Bergholtz) east oriented.

VINIFICATION

Produced according to the strictest criteria among the French AOCs, the Vendanges Tardives (late harvest) have to follow exacting rules: limited varietals, manual harvests, naturally rich in high sugar content that is checked by a representative of INAO two times, additional sugar forbidden, required mention of the varietal and the vintage on the label, 18 months of waiting before being accorded the name Vendanges Tardives.
