Albrecht !!
LUCIEN ALBRECHT Weid Barrel-aged 2008
The Albrecht family has lived in Orschwihr since the end of the
17th century. There is a small museum explaining the family's
roots, with displays of old books and tools in the tasting room.
The estate covers 32 hectares in the south of the vine-growing
region. Running the estate since 1992, Jean Albrecht exports 80%
of production. His Pinot Noir from Weid comes from Bollenberg,
the hill where the Celts venerated the god Belenos. This warm
land with chalky soil encourages the expression of the red Alsatian
grape. This 2008 is a deep garnet colour, marrying ripe red fruit
with wooded vanilla notes. The fruit and the oak balance well,
smooth and rich on the palate with chocolate and softened tannins.
A complex wine that will delight in two years' time, served with
a beef stew or a saddle of young venison.
